The IMarEST is a respected authority in every maritime country. It is an Organisation with consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), observer status at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), observer status at the London Convention/London Protocol (LC/LP), observer status with the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP).
It is a nominated and licensed body of the Engineering Council (UK), a member of the Science Council and has significant links with many other maritime organisations worldwide.
The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) is an award-winning, independent, non-political organisation promoting the professionalism, recognition and training of marine surveyors worldwide.
The IIMS is recognised as the leading worldwide professional body for marine surveyors and has a membership of around 1,000 professionals in over 100 countries. It is the largest organisation of its kind and seeks to represent its industry to government and non-governmental organisations such as the International Marine Organisation (IMO), Coastguards, P&I Clubs, insurance companies, brokers, vessel and ship owners. IIMS is not frightened to call national maritime regulators to account.
